Any discussion of Buddy Guy invariably involves a recitation of his colossal musical resume and hard-earned accolades. He's a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, a chief guitar influence to rock titans like Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, and Vaughan, a pioneer of Chicago's fabled West Side sound, and a living link to that city's halcyon days of electric blues. Buddy has received five Grammy Awards, 23 W.C. Handy Blues Awards (the most any artist has received), the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement, and the Presidential National Medal of Arts. At the age of 72, he appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone for the first time, as part of the magazine's "100 Greatest Guitar Songs" package (his cataclysmic 1961 recording of "Stone Crazy" made the list).
At age 18, Dave Mason teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood to for the legendary band, Traffic. At 19, Mason penned the song "Feelin' Alright." This song has since become a rock and roll anthem, having been recorded by well over 48 artists, the best known version being Joe Cocker. The group's profound influence over rock music remains unquestioned even today. Mason departed from the group after their second album to pursue a solo career. In addition to performing to sold-out audiences, Mason performed on a number of albums such as The Rolling Stones's "Beggar's Banquet," George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass," Paul McCartney's "Listen To What The Man Said," and Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland." One of the songs from "Electric Ladyland," "All Along the Watchtower," featured Dave playing acoustic guitar. This song, written by Bob Dylan, remains a big favorite in Dave's live show! Dave Mason's career spans 37 years and has encompassed producing, performing and song writing, not to mention being one of rock's great guitar players!
