Using yarn and light, Angie Wilson draws on metaphors of weaving to create visual and emotional translations of the cosmos, inspired by telescopic photography, string theory, and meditations on space and time. The impetus for Wilson’s imagery was the year she spent in radiation treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. During each session, she was slid into what looked like a space pod, a strange, cold place where she began to contemplate making work about outer space. In the gallery, she creates an immersive installation evoking the ever-expanding universe, transforming the gallery into a constellation of stars in various states of formation and explosion. She guides museum visitors in creating circular supernova weavings, connecting the external universe with our inner selves.

Angie Wilson's work has been exhibited around the Bay Area at Headlands Center for the Arts, San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, di Rosa, Oakland Museum of California, San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, City College of San Francisco, Cult/Aimee Friberg Exhibitions, and Root Division. She has been awarded fellowships and residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, and the National Institute of Art and Disabilities. Also a costume designer for theater and dance, she has created costumes for the American Conservatory Theater, Lines Ballet, Project Bandaloop, the Destiny Arts Youth Performance Company, and Embodiment Project.Ticket Information
