Permaculture: Biomimetic Regenerative Design

Permaculture is a wholistic design methodology which accesses the intelligence of natural ecosystems. This biomimetic approach supports us in designing resilient human systems such as abundant landscapes, to natural buildings whole communities. Jillian is an experienced international permaculture teacher and a facilitator of sustainable design. She works creatively and collaboratively with others, applying whole systems design principles to a wide range of projects: from urban balconies, through natural buildings designed as organisms, with frequent application at the whole community scale.
Jillian founded the Sustainable Living Network in 1999 and serves as its Executive Director. She has taught and been involved with sustainable design projects across Canada, in the United States, Central America, the UK, and Africa. She is known for her deeply attentive and grounded facilitation skills, and her sharp and expansive processing abilities. These enable her to design and deliver high quality experiences in the sustainable design community, and beyond.
Jillian holds an B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Guelph, and is at the end of a Masters in Environmental Design from York University. She received her permaculture design training in 1996. Jillian pursues a wide range of training to support her life-long commitment to learning.
A committed and talented teacher, Jillian apply permaculture principles to the design and delivery of education. She has taught at formal academic institutions such as: the College of Environmental Design, UC Berkeley; Building Science, Ryerson University; Environmental Studies, York University. She has also designed and led programs at alternative institutions such as Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont, and the Ecosa Institute for Regenerative Ecological Design in Arizona. She has taught permaculture courses in Canada, the US, Central America, the UK, and Europe.
