Christopher Nolan (born July 30, 1970) is a British-American filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter. He is married to Emma Thomas, a film producer, who has produces most of Nolan's films.
Nolan's first film was "Following" in 1998. Two years later he directed and wrote his first major hit film with "Memento" starring Guy Pearce. The movie earned him two Academy Award® nominations (Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing). He followed it up with 2002's "Insomnia" starring Robin Willims and Al Pacino.
Nolan would make his first massive imprint in the film interesting by breathing film life into the comic book character Batman with 2005's "Batman Begins." Starring Christian Bale, Nolan re-introduced the Dark Knight to the film-viewing world as a much darker, more complex character then previous creations. A sequel came out in 2008's "The Dark Knight" which was met with critical acclaim and earned 8 Academy Awards® nominations, winning two Awards (Best Supporting Actor - Heath Ledger, and Best Sound Editing - Richard King).
