Tartufi is Brian Gorman and Lynne Angel. They are friends. They make explosive, scary, pretty - and sometimes ouchie - epic masterpieces. Tartufi began in 2001. They have a strong and loyal local following and a substantial and ever growing national and international following. Tartufi has been voted by the SF Bay Guardian as one of San Francisco's best live shows.
After releasing their critically acclaimed Westward Onward EP (2004), Tartufi returned to producer and engineer Tim Green of The F~~king Champs and Nation of Ulysses at Louder Studios (Comets on Fire, The Melvins, Sleater-Kinner) to record So We Are Alive, their highly anticipated, first full length album. The success of So We Are Alive attracted international attention. In Fall 2005, Tartufi signed on with Spanish label Acuarela Records to release an exclusive 4 song EP titled Trouble, recorded by Phil Manley of Trans Am at Lucky Cat Studios in San Francsico.
The buzz around Tartufi’s tours in support of Trouble prompted the SF Bay Guardian to mark Tartufi as one of the top ten bands to explode into the national scene.
After a stunning and memorable showcase at SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST 2006 in Austin, Texas, Brian and Lynne locked themselves in their studio and began writing what would become the next full length album and their most important work to date. The new album US UPON BUILDINGS UPON US (Thread Records), produced again with the help of the ever amazing Tim Green, was released in September 2006 and has received lots of love from radio stations around the country. The album has been included in many “best of” lists for 2006 and 2007 and Tartufi’s seamless and relentlessly intense live show has been astonishing audiences nationwide.
In September 2006, Tartufi joined forces with three of their favorite bands Silian Rail, Low Red Land, and Birds and Batteries to form Thread Productions. The group has released compilation cd in October 2006, Dragon Slayers Vol. 1, and a new compilation is due out in June 2007. Together they book shows supporting the rich music scene throughout the Bay Area and has been dubbed “The Bay Area’s Best Music Collective” by the East Bay Express, Thread Productions proves true the ancient Indonesian saying, "You can do it yourself, but it's a hell of a lot more fun if you involve your friends and a dragon."
Fresh off their spring U.S. tour, Tartufi is currently writing material for a new album which promises to take their audience further into greater depths of what one fan called Tartufi’s “beautiful Hell.” In addition to writing the dynamic duo are busy planning their fall tour and supporting all the great SF bands they love.
