Saxophonist/flutist/vocalist Bruce Abbott began his professional music career at the tender age of 12, when he played with a band that performed at dances and wedding receptions. Especially adept with classical and jazz music, Abbott earned a Master of Music Performance degree at the University of Rhode Island and played dates around the world, including a concert tour of South Korea and a performance at former President Jimmy Carter's 75th birthday celebration. His other career highlights include performances at the Newport Jazz Festival and a tour with the Artie Shaw Orchestra, under Dick Johnson's direction. Abbott has also taught music as the former Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Rhode Island's Salve Regina College, as a saxophone instructor at the University of Rhode Island, and as a private tutor. Abbott has recorded over a dozen CDs with the North Star Jazz Ensemble on North Star Records, including Romancing the Sax and Moonlight & Sax. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
