Mikhail Petrenko

Mikhail Petrenko is emerging at the forefront of the new generation of great singers from the Mariinsky Theatre and is already creating quite a stir in Europe and the United States. The quality of his voice is unmistakable with its firm resonance and beauty.

Mr. Petrenko’s Metropolitan Opera appearances include Marshal Davout, Tikhon, and Bolkonsky’s Valet (War and Peace), Pistola (Falstaff), Hunding (Die Walküre), and Sparafucile (Rigoletto).

He recently appeared at the BBC Proms as the Storm Knight in Kashei the Immortal with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, and as Hagen in Götterdämmerung at the Salzburg Easter Festival and Aix-en-Provence Festival.

Career highlights include Daland (Der Fliegende Holländer) at the Baden-Baden Festival, Ramfis (Aida) and Varlaam (Boris Godunov) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) in Genoa, Pope Clément (Benvenuto Cellini) in Salzburg, and Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Lorenzo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), and the Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo) with the Paris Opera.
