"Pretty As a Swastika" by Lynne Kaufman opens the fall season of readings from the Playwrights’ Lab. Lee Sankowich will direct.
Legendary New York gossip columnist Walter Winchell described Leni Riefenstahl, the German film maker and Hitler favorite, as "pretty as a swastika." The play presents Riefenstahl in her 70s being interviewed by a black reporter from the New York Times. His goal is to persuade her to admit to awareness of the horror and cruelty of the Hitler years and the Holocaust.
