Randy Marshall
The show began with Marshall's now familiar foray into the world of the soloing bass player. A truly great bassist in his own right, Marshall's enthusiasm is tempered only by his humility and love of all things bass. His "Bass Solo Night" series are a thing to behold and fertile ground for bassists of all stripes, shapes and colors. Marshall played selections from his latest CD "Gravity", (Digital Garage label), a delightful and worthy effort. His lyrical playing and textured tones also showed an affinity for the late, great guitarist Michael Hedges. Quite a feat to bring that kind of feeling to the bass.
Marshall's lilting "Thin Blue Line II" is a fabulous example of his gorgeous style of plucking; The driving "Phallacy" will have you tapping your feet to a truly infectious groove and I am at a loss to explain how he plays "Bolero" on a bass. Marshall has such a guitar-like quality when he plays it that for a moment or two, I forgot I was listening to a bass!

Ariane Cap
Born and raised in Innsbruck, Austria, Ariane has been musically active since age 5, studying classical piano and other instruments. She studied bass at the Bass Institute in Munich, and Jazz Bass Education at the University of Music in Vienna, Austria, where she was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Miami to study in the Jazz program. Ariane received her Graduate Certificate of Music in 2000 from USF in Tampa, Florida. Ariane also studied extensively with Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, Chuck Rainey, Anthony Welllington, and Kai Eckhart.
Experienced in various settings and versed in many styles (from Big Band Jazz, to classic rock, pop, alternative, fusion, bebop, Latin...). Ariane has in recent years been exploring different kinds of world music and eclectic styles. In Austria she was bassist for theMozartBand, who fuses Mozart with funk and rock elements, featuring members of the Dresden Opera House, the Vienna Philharmonics, and members of Rock Star Falco’s band. From 2003 on, she spent three years on the road with the touring Celtic Rockers Tempest (album credit ’The Double Cross’, with the highly acclaimed track, ’Vision Quest’, which she co-wrote).
These days, Ariane is busy performing and recording with the The Sippy Cups, a psychedelic rock band appealing to kids and their parents alike, featuring jugglers and aerialists and a rocking show, The Brian Cline Band, a premier North Bay entertainment outfit playing top 40, Jazz and dance-ables, and The Palmwine Boys, who fuse acoustic African Highlife music with Americana.
Bach, funk, african or celtic, Cap is at home with all of them and her solo pieces are a wonderfully crafted reflection of her worldly travels.

Jeff Schmidt
After a 10 year musical hiatus, relative newcomer to the solo bass scene, JEFF SCHMIDT made a huge splash when he won the 2005 Bass Extremes International Solo Bass Competition – the biggest competition of its kind in the world, attracting entrants from all over the globe.
Competition judge and solo bass legend Victor Wooten of Bela Fleck & the Flecktones called Jeff's performance "some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard played on the bass guitar".
Since then Jeff has been writing and performing highly original solo bass compositions and conducting clinics on his unusual approach to solo bass guitar. Using exotic tunings, and un-orthodox techniques, Jeff creates exciting and emotionally charged music on 5 & 6 string fretted & fretless electric basses.
Jeff has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the electric bass world - Michael Manring, Steve Lawson, Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, Anthony Jackson, John Patitucci, Billy Sheehan, & Will Lee.
Jeff, a bay area local, released his first solo bass cd titled "OUTRE" at the end of 2007 which was recorded on old school analogue tape. Jeff can be found on www.myspace.com/jeffschmidtbassist and his web site www.beautiful-bass.com.

Nate Lopez
8 String Guitarist, Nate Lopez has been gigging professionally in the Bay Area for more than 10 years, and continues to play often with many different types of groups. Currently Nate Lopez has been playing his custom Novax 8-string bass/guitar with loops and effects, as well as a self-modified lap slide guitar with sympathetic strings. Nate produces many styles of music including jazz standards and not so standards, Hindustani music, as well as original music found on the Mufasa Electronic CD, ranging from smooth bossa nova to electronic loop-infested funk. From Jazz solo and duo projects to Big Band Jazz, Funk, North Indian Classical music, Afro-Cuban, and Hip Hop, Nate's signature style is diverse, lyrical, and absolutey his own. Despite keeping busy with gigs and collaborations, Nate continues to develop and grow musically, and is currently studying North Indian Classical music at the Ali Akbar School of Music.
