Occasio Winery

Descendants of fifteen generations of farmers, John Kinney and his family have always been aware of the fleeting nature of opportunity. Beginning in school when his debate teacher introduced him to the Latin phrase Occasio aegre offertur, facile amittitur, John realized those were the words to live by - to know that the right moment comes along rarely and is easily lost.
We have always believed in the importance of perfect timing and being true to nature. The impeccable expression of our Occasio wines showcases the terroir and unique attributes of the Livermore Valley, where the gravel-based soil from hillside vineyards renders exquisitely concentrated fruit.
Although it is often said that great wines begin in the vineyard, they are crafted in the winery. It is the winemaker’s job to translate the essence of the vineyard without altering its identity. This translation benefits from a minimalist approach to winemaking, whereby the style of the winemaker is best noticed by its absence.

Occasio Winery sits discretely at the entrance to the historically important Livermore Valley Wine Country. Our family invites you to experience our boutique winery and tasting salon and sample our latest releases, or relax and enjoy a glass of wine at one of our bistro tables in the shade of our giant tree.

For those wanting a more formal tasting, our Library Room accommodates parties up to eight people. Here, guests can study the wines in greater detail in the presence of our winemaker, and can explore cheese and wine pairing.
