On Tuesday, May 27, Senior Helpers of Contra Costa County will host an inaugural Senior Health Summit in Lafayette, CA.
The event is open to all East Bay seniors and families dealing with care and health issues for seniors. It will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Building at 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette. Parking and admission are free but the event is limited to the first 100 reservations, which can be made by calling Senior Helpers at 925-376-9900.
“The growing senior population or the ‘Silver Tsunami’ as some are calling it means we must be proactive in promoting a healthy lifestyle and address safety issues for the elderly in our community,” said Kevin Reneau, owner of Senior Helpers, a local in-home care provider organization that is sponsoring the event. “We wanted to provide a fun event that shows how nutritious foods can be both tasty and elegant, exercise can be enjoyable and a pinch of prevention in the home can help avoid serious consequences.”
The program will feature four local experts in the fields of nutrition, exercise and fitness, home safety and family planning strategies for senior care.
One of the main speakers at the event will be Marlene Dotterer, a graduate of the USPCA Culinary Business Academy who owns a local personal chef service called Meals with Marlene. Dotterer specializes in using fresh, organic foods grown by local farmers and ranchers.
Mark Ceilo is an exercise and fitness expert whose Pleasant Hill Club 50 center features fitness and nutrition programs and equipment designed exclusively for 50+ adults.
Making a presentation on fall prevention in the home is Sandy Warren, the Executive Director of Senior Outreach Services of Walnut Creek, a company that coordinates over 700 volunteers providing services to area seniors, including the Meals on Wheels program.
Jann Oldenburg has been active in the senior health care industry for over a decade and is the owner of Senior Visionary Services in Danville, specializing in consulting for seniors and families who are considering different living options. She will speak on the different options families face in deciding whether to remain at home and other options for seniors.
